FAQ. Straight answers.
We're veterans trying to get a useful tool in your hands. The site's early. If something's wrong, tell us and we'll fix what we can.
Plain talk
This isn't a polished big-company site. It's a working tool from a small shop built by veterans. If a page is bad, a button doesn't work, or a scan gets stuck, email us and say so. We'd rather fix it than pretend it's perfect.
Up front
Is this site finished?+
No. It's early. We're putting our time into making the tool work, not into looking like a big agency site.
If something feels half-built, it probably is. We're still working on it. What matters is that it reads your file right.
Something broke or looks wrong. What do I do?+
Tell us. Email us from the address you used. Say what you clicked, what you expected, and what happened. A screenshot helps.
We'd rather hear about it and fix it.
Are you the VA, a VSO, or a lawyer?+
No. We're not the VA and not tied to it. We're not a VSO, attorney, claims agent, or accredited rep. We do not file claims. What you get is information, not an official VA decision, and not medical or legal advice.
What this is
What is 369scan?+
It reads your VA Blue Button, sorts everything in it by date and page, and picks out the common VA language and terms so you don't have to dig through hundreds of pages yourself. You and your VSO or attorney can go straight to the page you need.
It doesn't rate anything and it doesn't tell you what to file.
What do I get?+
Everything. Every note, lab, med, image and appointment in the file, by date, with the page it's on, plus the record check — every spot where the record contradicts itself, skips something, or copies old notes forward.
Blue Button (how to get it, and keeping it a workable size)
What is Blue Button?+
It's your own VA health record, downloaded from My HealtheVet. You get it the same day. It's not your C-file and not a FOIA request.
How do I download my Blue Button?+
- Go to myhealth.va.gov and sign in (Login.gov or ID.me).
- Open Download My Data or Blue Button. The wording moves around, so look for Download My Data.
- Pick what to include (problem list, notes, meds, labs, and so on).
- Set a date range. Don't pull “all time” if you only need recent care.
- Download it as a PDF.
- Open it once and check the page count.
How big a file can I use?+
Uploaded files can be up to 3,000 pages. If yours is bigger, or it's slow:
- Narrow the date range (say, the last 2 to 5 years).
- Uncheck sections you don't need right now. Big imaging and lab dumps add a lot of pages.
- Still too big? Split it into two PDFs by date and run the main one first.
What should I give it?+
- Your Blue Button PDF. That's all you need.
- A single Blue Button is read on your own computer. Anything else (C-file extracts, scans, images, more than one file) gets uploaded. See the privacy answer below.
- Don't add SSN cards or unrelated IDs.
Cost
How much does it cost?+
Free to scan. The basic scan and condition map stay free. No subscription, and we never take a cut of your benefits.
Is the sample free?+
Yes. Try a fictional Blue Button on your own computer first if you want to see how it works. Your real Blue Button never uploads either way.
Other files
What about non-VA medical records?+
Coming soon. Right now it only fully reads VA Blue Button files. Civilian records are in the works.
Can I use a C-file extract, scans or images?+
Not on this site. 369scan reads one VA Blue Button PDF in your browser. It does not upload other files.
Problems with a file
Password-protected PDF? Scan stuck?+
- Password-protected PDFs usually won't open. Take the password off and try again.
- If a scan sits there too long, tell us.
Privacy
What happens to my file?+
A VA Blue Button PDF is read in your browser. 369scan does not upload veteran documents to a server. 369scan does not sell them. 369scan does not use them for advertising. 369scan does not send them to a public AI model.
What we don't do:
- Upload the document
- Sell your records
- Hand them to lawyers or claim companies
- Post them anywhere
- File claims with them
- Ask for your VA.gov password
More in the privacy policy.
Can it get things wrong?+
Yes. It can miss things, miscount, or read a page wrong. Check anything important against VA.gov and with your VSO or attorney. Don't treat it as the final word.
Still stuck?
Read the disclaimer and privacy policy. For a scan problem, email us and tell us what broke. We'll work it.
